Campaign blueprint

Start with the complete working structure, then adjust the language, timing, and incentive to fit your customers and brand.

Best used when

Your team has a specific decision or growth objective and needs a focused artifact to move from planning to launch.

Objective

Maximize qualified campaign sharing

Audience

People who would screenshot the prize and send it to one specific friend without being asked, which means the prize has to be something coveted rather than something discounted. This campaign fails quietly with no starting audience, because a share multiplier applied to zero traffic is still zero.

Recommended duration

7 to 14 days

What to measure

The ratio of referred entries to direct entries across the run, read weekly rather than at the end. If referred entries stay a small fraction of the total, the prize is not share-worthy and adding bonus actions will not change that.

Prize ideas

  • a complete product system or collection
  • A focused product bundle for the same customer need
  • Store credit paired with a bestselling product

Entry design

Primary action

Enter with email

Bonus actions

Refer a friendFollow on Instagram

Campaign timeline

  1. 1Day 1: launch to your own audience first, with list, order confirmation page, and social bios all pointing at one entry page
  2. 2Days 2 to 4: watch which seed produced referrals rather than clicks, then put more behind that one
  3. 3Days 5 to 10: mid-campaign push with a new photo of the prize and a reminder of what one referral is worth in entries
  4. 4Close and draw: announce the winner, then email your top referrers separately, because you have just identified the people who sell for you

Launch checklist

  • The prize describable in one sentence and photographable in one image
  • Seed plan written: which owned surfaces launch it, and in which order
  • Referral value stated on the entry page in entries rather than percentages
  • Somebody assigned to read the referral chains in the export after the draw

Promotion copy

One winner gets the complete [collection], every piece, in one box. Enter with your email, then each friend you refer adds entries; we draw at random on [date].

What you get

What this template gives you

Three specifics worth checking against your own store before you launch.

A complete system as the prize, because one item is a purchase and a set is a story

Referral entries give every entrant a stated reason to send it to one specific person

The entry export shows the referral chains, which is how you find your top sharers

How to put it into practice

How to put it to work

Start with the focused version, publish, and let the first answers steer the next iteration.

  1. 1

Build the prize as a set that solves one need end to end, then photograph the whole thing as a single object

  2. 2

Seed it deliberately through your list, your customers, and your order confirmation page, because sharing multiplies an audience and cannot create one

  3. 3

Hand people the share unit: a referral link, a written message, and one image sized for a story and a text thread

Mistakes to avoid

Protect the quality of the result

Strong execution usually comes from removing ambiguity and keeping every action tied to the original objective.

Expecting the campaign to spread itself, when viral describes an outcome and every share still starts with somebody you already reached

Stacking six bonus actions to force sharing, which makes entry tedious and rewards the people who complete six actions on every giveaway they find

A prize nobody can describe in one sentence, so the friend receiving the message never works out what is being given away

Counting only the total, when the five entrants who each brought twenty friends are invisible unless you read the referral chains

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers before you launch

Can a giveaway actually go viral?

Sharing compounds only while the average entrant brings in more than one new entrant, and that rarely holds for more than a couple of days. Plan this as a multiplier on traffic you already have, seed it properly on day one, and treat anything wider as a bonus rather than the plan you budgeted against.

What makes a prize shareable?

One sentence and one photo. A complete set with an obvious purpose gets forwarded to a specific person; a pile of unrelated items does not, whatever the combined retail value says. If you cannot fit the prize into a text message, it will not travel through one.

Should I use a bigger prize to get more shares?

Prize value raises entry volume and lowers entry quality at the same time. Something worth twice anything you sell pulls in people who will never pay your prices. Bigger helps only up to the point where the prize still reads as your product rather than as a jackpot.

Where do referred entrants actually come from?

Direct messages and group chats, mostly, which you cannot see from outside. That is exactly why the referral link matters: it is the only version of a share you can count, and it is the reason to make the referral the bonus action rather than a repost you have no way to verify.
